Sumario:The following work focuses on democratic theory, this for the new discussions in political science from the new regimes in Latin America where there is much debate about its true inclination as a system of government and. how they should be cataloged, for which show two main aspects: firstly minimalist democracy and, the other a maximalist democracy, more than the stated conditions above. After analyze the two dominant theories and its greatest exponents, develops a contribution to the theory maximalist. This contribution by focusing on our western reality XXI century, this theory is based on four pillars: Elections (free, equal, universal, regular and limited mandates), freedoms in a democratic system, and separation of powers party system, these conditions being the minimum order appoints a democracy regime finally develops a discussion of why maximalist democracy is better than a minimalist.
