Sumario:In this paper we analyze the state of the art wireless communication systems 5G to determine possible research and innovations that can be performed in Ecuador, aligned to the national plan of good living and lines of research are UPS (Universidad Politécnica Salesiana), specifically the research group in Electronics and Telematics, to promote national technological development. The main changes in cell architecture, the requirements, key technologies, challenges that it faces 5G and their applications are analyzed. Finally, several research topics focused especially on technologies such as: MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) massive, millimeter wave, micro cell, full-duplex transmission simultaneously using the same frequency and the same channel, technologies with less environmental impact, communication device-to-device (D2D), among others, for networks with high data rate, greater coverage, lower latency, secure, reliable, flexible and scalable networks capable to support the traffic demand and massive connectivity devices provided for 2020.
