Sumario:In Riobamba city, reinforced concrete has been widely used for the construction of buildings with different purposes; however, human settlements and densification of the city demand new construction systems in accordance with the technical regulations in force in our country. The present investigation focuses on the structural and economic comparison of three construction systems: Reinforced Concrete, Steel and Mixed (Reinforced Concrete and Steel) for buildings of 3 and 5 floors with 4 and 6 meter lights, with the aim of providing economic alternatives and greater Criterion to define the construction system to be used in a given project. The proposed construction systems are made up of moments-resistant frames, in the case of the mixed system, reinforced concrete columns, type I steel reinforced beams and slab with cooperating Deck plate are used. A pre-design of the structural elements of each alternative meeting the requirements of resistance and serviceability, then, using the ETABS 2016 non-comercial version, the application of specifications and requirements presented by the NEC 2015 design standar. It achieves the modeling and subsequent design of each proposed alternative, verifying, among other parameters, vibration modes, maximum floor drifts, deflections, stresses, etc. A manual verification of the results presented by the ETABS software is carried out, verifying that each structural element fulfills the load requests. This research is based on documentary, comparative, descriptive and scientific methods. Finally, with the optimum sections for each construction system, a comparison of results is carried out and later a unit price analysis of the items related to dead work is obtained, which will allow obtaining a reference budget for each alternative, which will serve as an important parameter for the economic comparison of systems.
