Sumario: | The armed conflict that has reigned over Colombia in the past years has led to the departure of hundreds of people in search of refuge. The departed people have fled to neighboring countries such as Ecuador. Both Colombia and Ecuador are members of the integration process take upon by the Andean Community of Nations (CAN). This investigation intends to determine if the ongoing integration process between the countries should intervene to better the situation of refugees and if it is determined that the Andean Community should intervene, analyze how this process has ensured the protection of the rights of refugees through its processes and institutions. Additionally, evaluate the support given by other members of the Andean Community in this situation. It became clear during this investigation that even though the Andean Community should be re responsible for the protection and guarantees of Colombian refugees, this has not been occurring due to the fact that human rights issues are not a priority to the Andean Community and sadly the refugee situation is even a lesser issue. |
