Sumario:The purpose of the essay is to analyze Ecuador’s current populist politics and the severe consequences that the Ecuadorian politics had suffer, starting from the understanding of the general concept of what is known as populism. From that starting point, this essay will analyze the first government system that truly represents this trend: Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra. After taking a look of his first two terms, the next president will be Abdala Bucaram Ortiz his term represents a more radical populism. After that investigation, there is a discussion to cover the main characteristics of the Populist Leaders, while being criticized to understand the negative results in our country’s politics. At the end this essay will get conclusions of why populism has been a very negative current for the Ecuadorian’s politics.
